IVLA 2026 Charleston
​Registration Opens June 1
The International Visual Literacy Association invites you to join us in Charleston, South Carolina, for the 58th Annual IVLA Conference, “Seeing Through Time: The Legacy of Images in Memory, Place, and Representation,” hosted at the beautiful Gibbes Museum of Art. Registration officially opens June 1, 2026.
Whether you submitted a proposal or simply want to engage with the evolving conversations shaping the field of visual literacy, this year’s conference offers an exciting opportunity to connect with scholars, educators, artists, designers, researchers, and creative professionals from around the world. Together, we will explore how images influence memory, identity, culture, archives, storytelling, emerging technologies, and the ways we understand both past and present.
Beyond the conference itself, attendees will experience the unique charm, history, hospitality, and visual richness of Charleston, a city whose architecture, cultural traditions, and layered narratives beautifully reflect this year’s theme. We look forward to welcoming both longtime IVLA members and first-time attendees for a meaningful and inspiring gathering this fall.

IVLA Awards & Scholarships

IVLA Awards
Each year the International Visual Literacy Association awards a handful of individuals for their outstanding contributions to the field of visual literacy. These awards recognize achievements within the academic, creative, and professional realms of visual literacy. For information about previous winners and descriptions of the awards, please see the awards page on our website.
Nominees will be selected from those who are IVLA members and/or conference presenters. The nominations deadline is June 1, 2026. Awardees will be notified by June 15, 2026.

IVLA Scholarships
IVLA offers up to four scholarships: one for artists, one for students, one for members, and one for leadership members to attend the annual conference. All award amounts are for $750 and the registration fee for the conference will also be waived.
The deadline to apply for all scholarships is June 1, 2026. Applicants will be notified by June 15, 2026 if they are the recipient of a scholarship.
